Welcome to our new series, How I Came to Be a Financial Advisor. Each month we will feature one team member in our newsletter who will share their background in, passion for, and future plans in the financial planning profession. There is truly something special that each individual brings to our team, and we can't wait to share it all with you. This month we will start with Robin Young, President, Partner, and valued leader at Northstar.

1. What drew you to the financial planning profession?

The holistic nature of financial planning. I worked as a tax manager for a real estate firm and only saw the tax piece of the puzzle. I thoroughly enjoy learning about a person's whole situation - personally and financially.

2. Were there any personal experiences that shaped or motivated you to enter this field?

I worked selling products (investments, insurance, annuities) for a year and was disheartened by the pressure to sell products that weren't the right fit for clients. That is why I am such a huge advocate of Fee-Only fiduciary advice.

3. What do you like most about your profession?

Money helps people reach their goals and achieve financial security. I am proud to be part of an industry that helps people do this.

4. What motivates you professionally?

Continuing to create an extremely personalized, customized, and holistic service offering that our clients value. I also enjoy reading and collaborating about best practices in our business.

5. What is the most rewarding part of your job?

Helping people make good financial decisions and increasing their sense of financial well-being.

6. What are you most excited about, looking at the future of your career?

Mentoring my team and continuing to hone my skills on the financial, life, and transition planning sides so that I can be my best when working with clients.
